This is a 15th century portrait of one of Christ’s 12 famous disciples Peter, also known as Simon.
The definition of the name Peter in the Greek (Petros) means ‘rock or stone’. It was a prophetic name given to him by Christ (Matthew 16:18).
Peter was born in Bethsaida (a town in Galilee).
He was the son of a fisherman. He later on took on the occupation of a fisherman at the sea of Galilee with his brother Andrew until Christ encountered them and made them fishers of men (Matthew 4:19).
From there, he was ordained to wake up the lost sheep of Israel (Matthew 10:5-6).
